Easing Your Vacation Worries
Because we care about your vacation investment, The Moorings offers two insurance programs to ease your worries during your charter.
Our Yacht Security Insurance, offered through the Moorings, reduces your possible financial liability should your yacht or equipment be damaged during your vacation. This insurance is not optional and the cost will be included in your Vacation Estimate.
Our CharterCare Protection Program, offered through AIG Travel Guard, covers you from financial loss if for some reason you must cancel or delay your charter. A reasonable fee ensures you may resume or reschedule your vacation at a later date in the event of family illness, jury duty, etc., should your trip be cancelled or interrupted. This program also provides some medical coverage should you become ill or injured during your Moorings charter. This insurance is optional; however, it may cover you from financial loss should you cancel or reschedule your charter. We recommend you consider including it in your charter contract. For more information, please read the details provided below or contact one or our Vacation Planning Specialists.
Security Insurance or Security Deposit (offered through The Moorings)
- One of the following security payments must be selected to guarantee a bareboat charter:
A non-refundable security insurance premium is available. This is called The Moorings Yacht Security Insurance. With payment of this insurance premium, the charterer is relieved of all liability for loss or damage to the yacht and its equipment, except for loss or damage to the yacht and its equipment caused by gross negligence or wanton or willful misuse by charterer, his or her family, guests and agents, for which charterer may be solely liable. This coverage carries a small deductible amount. Contact your local Vacation Planning Specialist for details.
- A refundable security deposit can be applied to the repair of damages or replacement of lost equipment caused by charterer or by any of his party. This deposit will be refunded after the termination of the charter pending receipt and review of an inspection report by the company. This deposit relieves the charterer of loss or damage over the amount of the deposit to the yacht or its equipment, except for loss or damage over the amount of the deposit caused by gross negligence or wanton or willful misuse by the charterer, his or her family, guests and agents, for which charterer may be solely liable.

CharterCare Vacation Protection Program Q&A
Why should I purchase CharterCare? Preparing for your charter includes covering yourself from unfortunate occurrences that threaten to interfere with even your best-laid plans. By purchasing CharterCare, you can help cover yourself against cancellation penalties, medical costs, and baggage loss and delays for covered reasons, as well as gain access to a wide range of traveler’s assistance services.
I purchased my airfare separately from my charter. Will I still have coverage for airline cancellation fees? Yes. The Trip Cancellation benefit includes coverage for flights joining and departing your charter.
When is payment for CharterCare due and how do I enroll? For your convenience, we will add the plan cost on our charter invoice and include it in the balance due. By paying the amount indicated on your travel invoice, you will be enrolled upon The Mooring's receipt of payment.
When does coverage go into effect and will it cover me for the entire length of my charter? The Trip Cancellation coverage takes effect upon receipt of the required plan cost by The Moorings. All other benefits will take effect at 12:01 A.M. on your scheduled departure date and location. Your coverage will remain valid until 11:59 P.M. of your scheduled completion date or your return to you origination point as stated on your tickets, whichever is earlier. Please see the Description of Coverage for detailed information.
What happens if I need to cancel my charter? Please contact The Moorings and AIG Travel Guard as soon as possible in the event of a claim. AIG Travel Guard will then forward you the appropriate claim form in order to file a claim.
What happens if my Skipper cancels their trip but I still want to travel? CharterCare covers for additional costs as a result of a change in Skipper if your Skipper cancels for a covered reason under CharterCare and you choose to replace him/her with a Skipper provided by The Moorings.
Will CharterCare cover me if I cancel my charter due to bad weather? Please note that there is no coverage for trip cancellation in the event of inclement weather (actual or predicted). However, in the event that inclement weather causes a delay in your arrival to the charter or on your return home, coverage is provided under the Trip Delay benefit.
Other Insurance Needs
Some special types of charters will require additional insurance or deposits, such as the Racing Deposit required for yachts chartered for entry into regattas. Please speak to one of our Vacation Planning Specialists for details.
